James McMurtry at Gruene Hall

James McMurtry returns to the stage on Friday, August 29, 2025, bringing his masterful songwriting and sharply drawn storytelling to Gruene Hall. Known for his vivid character portraits and piercing Americana sound, McMurtry’s performances are as much literary experiences as they are musical events.

Fans can expect songs from his eleventh album The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy, where he paints haunting and humorous stories of everyday lives—sheriffs with secrets, drifting mechanics, and men lost in hallucinations. Backed by his seasoned band featuring Cornbread on bass, Tim Holt on guitar, Daren Hess on drums, and BettySoo on vocals, McMurtry creates an atmosphere that feels spontaneous, intimate, and unforgettable.

Doors open at 7 pm with an opener to be announced at 8 pm. McMurtry takes the stage at 9:30 pm. General admission is $20.
