Owen Stroud at Krause’s Cafe

A rich blend of Texas storytelling and timeless musical influences fills the air at Krause’s Cafe on March 7 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm as singer-songwriter Owen Stroud performs live.

Drawing inspiration from honky-tonk classics, Western swing barnburners, regional folksongs, jazz standards, baroque fugues, and even high-church hymns, Owen Stroud crafts a sound that is both thoughtful and distinctly Texan. A native of Austin’s northwest suburbs, he spent several post-college years living out of state, including time in Nashville, before returning to south central Texas in 2020.

Stroud has written and produced two albums, If There Are Other Places (2019) and The Handwriting Was Mine (2023). His latest release reflects both recollection and rediscovery of home turf, weaving humor and poignance into songs about winter storms, piquin salsa, and even the perils of I-35. When he is not performing, he can often be found hiking Texas state parks, writing new music, or diving into books about the state’s unique geography.
