Shark Week at Science Mill

Ocean exploration takes center stage during Shark Week at Science Mill from July 7 through July 11. This family-friendly event invites guests of all ages to discover the science behind some of the ocean’s most fascinating predators through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and educational workshops.

Throughout the week, visitors can investigate shark habitats, learn about unique adaptations that help sharks survive, and participate in a variety of engaging activities. Highlights include Shark-a-Salt, where participants explore how salinity affects shark habitats; Pin the Fin: Shark Tag, which demonstrates how scientists identify individual sharks using dorsal fins; and Origami Shark, a creative activity that teaches guests about shark anatomy and movement. Visitors can also learn about the remarkable traits that help sharks hunt, navigate, and thrive in diverse marine environments.

A special Shark Dissection Workshop offers a closer look at shark anatomy under the guidance of a Science Mill Education Specialist. Participants will examine a real dogfish shark and investigate its external features, internal organs, gills, and other adaptations that make sharks successful ocean predators.

Guests can also explore the Science Mill’s immersive Extreme Science exhibit, which showcases some of Earth’s most challenging environments and the extraordinary ways living things adapt to survive.

Shark Week takes place daily from 10 am to 5 pm at Science Mill, located at 101 South Lady Bird Lane, Johnson City, TX 78636.

All Shark Week activities are included with regular Science Mill admission unless otherwise noted.
