Summer Cinema: Hairspray at The Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre

The Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre continues its Summer Cinema series on July 22 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm with a screening of the musical comedy Hairspray. Summer Cinema is sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts in partnership with Popbelly’s Popcorn.

Set in 1960s Baltimore, the film follows dance-loving teenager Tracy Turnblad as she auditions for the popular television program “The Corny Collins Show” and unexpectedly becomes a local celebrity. As Tracy rises to fame, she uses her growing influence to challenge social norms and support racial integration on the show while navigating music, dance, and teenage life.

Hairspray features an ensemble cast including John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, and Queen Latifah.

This film is rated PG.
