In our My New Braunfels Life interview series, we talk to local business owners and residents and ask them to share their favorite things about our great town.
Today, we’re excited to talk to Matt Kyle, a lifetime New Braunfels resident and founder of The Kyle Law Firm. Matt has been successful in a number of cases involving car accidents, wrongful death, brain injury, DWI defense, and many more.
For more than 25 years, our partners at The Kyle Law Firm have been standing up for people in New Braunfels, San Marcos, and across the Hill Country when life takes an unexpected turn. Whether it’s a serious injury, a devastating accident, or criminal charges, Matt Kyle and his team bring trial-tested expertise, compassion, and care to every case.
Let’s get to the interview…
How long have you lived in New Braunfels?

I was born and raised here, and of course, I went away for college and law school. But out of my 59 years, I’ve probably been here. 50 of those.
What do you love most about living in New Braunfels?
The thing I love most about New Braunfels is the people. The community here, as I grew up with and what I knew before my time, was a community of inclusion and encouragement and support. People around here have always been like that.
They also like to have a lot of fun. Whether it’s Wurstfest or Wassailfest or pick your fest, this community knows how to have a lot of fun.
The other thing is, it’s incredibly charitable. People around here give freely, and I really enjoy joining in some of those charitable causes and serving where I can.
Do you have a favorite New Braunfels restaurant or go-to meal?
Well, that’s complicated. So the way I look at downtown, which is where I spend most of my time eating, is on Castell, I have McAdoo’s and Myron’s. And then, of course, I have the Huisache down the road and Muck & Fuss going the other way.
But if I’m looking for great Mexican food these days, I like NB Tortilleria and the Butcher Boy Taco House.
Also, I grew up working at Pat’s Place, so you got to go there for a burger or enchiladas also.
When you’re not working, where might we find you around town?

I love music, and I love writing music. I love playing the guitar. That’s kind of my outlet.
So you might find me in Gruene at the speakeasy (Goodwin’s), which is below the street, where they have a songwriter night on Tuesday nights. They also have (a songwriter night) at the Pour Haus, and I might go there for that. The Phoenix also hosts one on Thursday night.
But one of my favorite places is what is now a legend called The Redbird Listening Room. That’s Dallas Burrow’s place up there on Business 35, and that’s on Thursday nights for songwriters. They do originals, so it kind of helps me to write my own stuff and go enjoy that in circles of people that do that. It’s really an escape for me.
So if you’re looking for me, that’s probably where I’ll be.
What’s a hidden gem or underrated spot you think more people should know about?
I think if people haven’t driven down the length of Castell Street recently, then they may be missing out. There are coffee shops down there and then there’s a new place that’s opened up called The Clubhouse on Castell. They have a nice light appetizer menu. They serve food, and they actually have cigar smoking out on the patio, if you like. Those are kind of places I like.
But if anybody knows anything about Lakeview, then they know that at the bottom of the hill there’s the Hoity Toit. And you can’t get there from here without a six pack. You should try it sometime.
Tell us more about what you do and how people can reach you.
When I looked at becoming a lawyer, I look back and see that it was probably because I wanted to help people.
I’m also pretty competitive, so what I ended up doing was opening up a trial practice and my firm specializes in personal injury cases and criminal defense cases. I’ve actually been Board-certified in personal injury trial law since 2004. So those are the areas and the needs that I serve.
And it’s really kind of easy to reach out these days. You know, if anybody knows me, they know I’ve got a couple of billboards in town and you can do it that way. The easiest way is just to go to our website. We have contact forms there that make it real easy to reach out to us.
And it’s also confidential. Anything you would ever call us about or email us about or reach out in that way is always confidential. But it’s my easiest way really to serve the community. That’s just what I got put here for, I think, and that’s why I enjoy it so much.
