The Ultimate Guide to Gaming Stores & Events in New Braunfels

Looking for a new hobby in 2026? New Braunfels has a growing gaming community that many people don’t even realize exists.

From tabletop role-playing and collectible card games to board games and casual open play, there are more ways than ever to jump in and find your people.

You can try a beginner-friendly Dungeons & Dragons night, start building a Magic: The Gathering deck, or just show up with a favorite board game and enjoy a relaxed, social space.

With three dedicated game shops in town and another on the way, plus library-hosted events and open play nights, New Braunfels is quietly becoming a great place to roll dice, shuffle cards, and make game night something to look forward to.

The most well-known shop in town is D Pad, located on W. San Antonio St. They host events nearly every day of the week—except Wednesdays, which are reserved for something special.

D Pad offers Friday and Sunday night Magic: The Gathering, Saturday night Pokémon League, and a chess club every Thursday.

If walking in on a busy event night feels a little intimidating, worry not. D Pad hosts Learn to Play Dungeons & Dragons events on the last Wednesday of every month. You don’t need to bring anything but your imagination and a willingness to have a good time. Their friendly atmosphere means the whole family is welcome—be sure to check out their event calendar for more.

D Pad also has a good selection of video games too if you’re into that.

Speaking of D&D, the New Braunfels Public Library’s main branch hosts a Dungeons & Dragons campaign every Saturday from 2:30–4:30 PM. No experience is required, as each tablescape is different, and they even provide dice and character sheets.

Spots are limited, with registration opening one week in advance, so plan your adventure accordingly.

As a bonus, if you have a teen who may not want to play fantasy games with their parents and “a bunch of old folks,” as they might say, the West Side Branch hosts Teen D&D on Wednesdays from 5:45–7:45 PM.

Your local library offers so many events each month—almost something to do every single day for adults and kids alike—and not all of them revolve around gaming. Be sure to check out their calendar to discover a new hobby and free things to do for 2026.

The newest addition to the gaming scene is Legends & Loot. They moved into their location at 1410 S. Business IH 35 B in 2025 and already have a loyal following.

Walking in, you’re met with a warm welcome, and the owner may even call you by name if he’s seen you around before. The shop features plenty of board games to try and everything you need to build an epic D&D campaign.

On Sundays, they host open play all day, so you can drop in and play whatever your heart desires. Stick around until 2:00 PM, and their Dungeons & Dragons campaign begins—you may even snag a seat.

Be sure to check out their Facebook page for more events and updates.

Another great shop—and one lesser known to those outside the gaming scene—is Blitzkrieg Games and Comics.

This small, unassuming shop is a haven for those with a deep love for Magic: The Gathering. The store is packed with beginner decks, collectible cards, board games, D&D supplies, and just about anything a gamer could want.

If Magic is your niche, or you’re simply curious, this is the place for you. Located at 681 S. State Highway 46, Suite F, Blitzkrieg hosts Magic nights every weekend, along with additional events throughout the week.

The knowledgeable and welcoming owner is always happy to show you the ropes and help you build your first deck. For more information and to stay up to date on their events, check out their Facebook page here.

New Braunfels is a vibrant community of unique scenes and neighborhoods, making it one of the best places to live in Texas. Whether you’re exploring something new or jumping back into an old passion, make 2026 the year you support your local community—and have a lot of fun doing it.
