Yes, it’s official. Costco is on the way to the Mayfair development in New Braunfels. The warehouse giant will bring bulk shopping across groceries, household essentials, electronics, furniture, and more, along with the famously unbeatable $1.50 hot dog combo.
For growing families and local businesses alike, Costco’s arrival means access to significant savings and convenience under one roof. Ground has already been broken at the Mayfair site, making this one of the most anticipated retail additions in the Texas Hill Country and a major milestone in New Braunfels’ continued growth.
Kennedy’s Tavern

One of New Braunfels’ most iconic historic homes is getting a brand-new chapter. The Voigt House, a designated Texas Historic Landmark in downtown New Braunfels, is being transformed into Kennedy’s Tavern, a cozy Irish pub designed to preserve the building’s character while bringing new life to the space.
Plans call for minimal interior changes, keeping the charm and intimate feel intact. Guests can expect locally crafted beers, Fredericksburg wines, cocktails, and hearty food options. Upstairs, a 25-seat speakeasy called the Emerald Lounge will offer a more hidden experience, operating entirely by word of mouth. With a full opening targeted for St. Patrick’s Day, Kennedy’s Tavern is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated downtown openings of 2026.
Saludo’s
ETA: Early 2026
Another exciting addition is coming to downtown New Braunfels, and it’s bringing new life to one of the city’s most historic spaces. ¡Saludos! Cocina + Bar is set to open inside the iconic Dittlinger Roller Mills building, introducing a Mexico City–inspired concept from the teams behind Las Fontanas, The Box Street Social, and CRAFThouse.
The restaurant is expected to serve bold, elevated dishes like ribeye tacos and chicharrón wings, paired with fresh margaritas and Latin-inspired cocktails. Plans also include a spacious patio, a kid-friendly green space, and private dining areas for events. While an exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet, Saludos is getting close and is shaping up to be a major new dining destination at 388 E. San Antonio St.
Old City Hall Restaurant & Bar

One of downtown New Braunfels’ most recognizable historic buildings is preparing for a new chapter. The Old City Hall building, originally constructed in 1929 and once used for everything from city operations to World War II medic training, is being transformed into Old City Hall Restaurant & Bar.
Led by the team behind McAdoo’s, the new concept is planned as an upscale dining destination featuring wood-fired steaks, house-made pastas, and classic cocktails. Plans also include a new bar area, an outdoor patio, and private dining spaces, all designed to complement and preserve the building’s historic character. With an opening targeted for early 2026, this project is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated additions to downtown’s dining scene.
Hunter Road Country Club

A new neighborhood hangout is taking shape along Hunter Road. Hunter Road Country Club, a new local bar concept from the owners of Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery, is nearing the finish line and will open right next door to the popular bakery.
Despite the name, this will not be a private club. The concept is designed as an everyday gathering place where locals can stop in, unwind, and feel at home. Plans call for a full bar serving cocktails made with freshly squeezed juice daily, along with a thoughtfully curated food menu focused on quality rather than gimmicks. With an opening targeted for the first quarter of 2026, Hunter Road Country Club aims to become a go-to spot built around great drinks, solid food, and welcoming service.
UBP Burger (Brick & Mortar)

After months of anticipation, UBP Burger’s highly anticipated new location is getting closer to the finish line. The latest word is that they’re still aiming to open by the end of January, with the new spot coming to 588 Business I-35.
Until the doors officially open, the food truck is still rolling and serving up the same standout burgers that built the hype in the first place. Not long now.
Portillo’s

One of Chicago’s most recognizable food brands is officially headed to New Braunfels. Portillo’s is planning a new fast-casual restaurant near the intersection of FM 306 and Sophie Lane, bringing its famous Chicago-style hot dogs to the growing area.
With more than 70 locations nationwide, Portillo’s is known for far more than just hot dogs. The menu includes Italian beef sandwiches, burgers, chicken sandwiches, pastas, desserts, and classic comfort food that has earned a loyal following across the country. For locals who have traveled to cities with a Portillo’s, this long-anticipated opening is shaping up to be a major win for New Braunfels’ food scene in 2026.
SMac’n Noodles

Mac and cheese is about to get a serious upgrade in New Braunfels. Seguin favorite SMac’n Noodles is opening a second location at 1515 N. Walnut Ave., bringing its comfort-food-forward menu packed with bold flavors and scratch-made ingredients to town.
Known for its creative takes on mac, the menu ranges from classics to globally inspired bowls like Buffalo, tikka, and chicken Alfredo, along with build-your-own options loaded with mix-ins such as smoked brisket and stuffed sausage. The concept also includes gluten-free and vegan choices, plus a rotating Mac of the Month that keeps things fresh. Terry Black’s BBQ

One of the most talked-about restaurant moves in recent memory is officially headed to New Braunfels. Terry Black’s BBQ is planning a new location at 1310 E. Common St., taking over the former Los Cucos building that has sat vacant since spring 2024. According to recently filed permits, the acclaimed Central Texas barbecue joint is set to join the local dining scene just steps away from Black’s BBQ, a proximity that’s already generating plenty of buzz.
Founded in 2014 by twin brothers Michael and Mark Black, along with their sister Christina, Terry Black’s BBQ traces its roots back to Lockhart, the barbecue capital of Texas. Since opening their first location in Austin, the brand has expanded to cities like Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Lockhart, and even Nashville. Known for its classic Central Texas barbecue approach, Terry Black’s offers meats by the slice, link, bone, or pound, making it easy for everything from solo lunches to full family meals. Creekside is adding another popular fast-casual option to its growing lineup. CAVA, the nationally known Mediterranean chain, is planning a New Braunfels location at Town Center at Creekside.

A major new fitness option is on the way to Creekside. EōS Fitness is planning a 24/7 gym at the corner of I-35 and Creekside Way near Hobby Lobby, expanding the brand’s Texas footprint into New Braunfels.
