Now that the school year has come to an end, many families will be seeking ways to keep their children healthy, active, and well-nourished throughout the summer months. For many children, the free and reduced-priced meals, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, that they receive during the school year are a vital source of daily nutrition. When school lets out, that support can suddenly disappear, leaving families to find new ways to fill the gap.
Fortunately, New Braunfels ISD is participating in the Seamless Summer Option Program, providing free meals to children 18 and younger at multiple campus locations across the city.
Starting as early as May 28, select schools will serve breakfast and lunch at no cost, with no registration, ID, or paperwork required.
Meals must be eaten on-site and are available to all children, regardless of income or enrollment status. It’s a simple way to make sure kids have access to nutritious food even when school is out.
Here’s a look at the participating New Braunfels ISD locations and their serving schedules:
- Lone Star Early Childhood Center
May 28 – June 26 (Monday through Thursday) - Klein Road Elementary School
June 9 – June 27 (Monday through Friday) - Long Creek High School
June 9 – June 26 (Monday through Thursday) - New Braunfels Middle School
June 9 – June 27 (Monday through Friday)
Meal Times at All Locations:
- Breakfast: 7:30 am – 8:00 am
- Lunch: 11:00 am – 11:30 am
These meal sites are part of a larger statewide effort to fight childhood hunger.
More than 1 in 5 children in Texas struggle with food insecurity, especially during the summer when access to school cafeterias disappears.
The Summer Meal Programs, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered in Texas by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), help fill that gap by offering healthy, balanced meals in a clean, supervised setting.
Meals are also available to Texas students up to age 21 with disabilities. Families can visit as many times as needed—there are no forms to fill out, and no questions asked.
If you’re outside the New Braunfels ISD area or looking for additional locations, you can search for nearby sites at SummerFood.org or by calling 2-1-1.
Schedules are subject to change, so it’s always a good idea to confirm with the site before visiting.
For many families, these programs provide critical peace of mind during the summer months.
If you or someone you know could benefit, don’t hesitate to take advantage of this resource, because no child should have to worry about their next meal.
