When Los Cucos closed in April 2024, New Braunfels had some prime restaurant real estate available, but for more than a year now, the property has sat vacant. However, according to recently filed building permits, an acclaimed BBQ joint is set to move in, adding to the list of new restaurants coming soon to New Braunfels.
Terry Black’s BBQ will occupy the vacant building at 1310 E. Common St., with only one parking lot separating it from the beloved Black’s BBQ.
Those who are plugged into the restaurant industry drama know that while both restaurants are owned by relatives of one another, they share a bitter rivalry that dates back more than a decade. The strained relationship has been marked by lawsuits, firings, and arguments.
Now set to join the BBQ scene in New Braunfels within shouting distance from their rival, Terry Black’s is sure to make a splash in town.
According to their website, “Terry Black’s Barbecue was founded in 2014 by BBQ cooks and twin brothers Michael and Mark Black with the help of their sister, Christina. After growing up in the barbecue capital of Texas, Lockhart, and learning the tricks of the trade from their father, Terry, the trio opened up their first location in the heart of Austin off Barton Springs Road.”
As their slogan puts it, Terry Black’s will be your home for Central Texas BBQ. They have locations all over central Texas, including Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, and Lockhart, as well as one location in Nashville, TN.
Terry Black’s is more than just a family restaurant; the Terry Black Family Hospitality company owns event spaces in Austin and Wimberley (coming soon), and they have recently opened their first seafood restaurant in Waco, Texas.
While Terry Black’s has a welcoming atmosphere that is perfect for families, customers should be aware that they do not have a kids’ menu. Instead, they offer a multitude of portion sizes that range from by the slice, bone, or link to by the pound: perfect for kids, adults, and
family portions.
They also have large and small family packs on their menus, and options for catering. The menu includes seven unique sides and three desserts, as well as drinks and sandwiches, making it lunch-rush ready.
